La Caille | Grubbin' | Sandy

It's a tradition in our home to take our kids out to eat somewhere special and unique when they turn 8. We want them to remember this special day forever, so we pull out all the stops. They can order anything they want including fancy drinks and dessert, or just dessert if that's what they want. The only thing they don't decide is where we are going. We pick the restaurant because we want to go somewhere that they have never been before.

When deciding on the perfect location, La Caille kept coming to mind. I hadn't been in years, but from what I remembered, it would be the perfect magical place for our special date.

I was right! She was in love from the moment we drove through the gates. The flowers, the ducks and peacocks, the cobblestone drive. It's like a slice of French countryside tucked into the Salt Lake City valley.

The inside is just as charming as the outside.

She was the only "kid" in the restaurant when we were there, but they DO have a kids menu, complete with the most incredible chicken fingers I have ever tasted. Kids meals come with a drink and dessert too!

Strawberry lemonade for the little lady.

Virgin Mojitos for mom and dad.

Our server brought us some melon soup "compliments of the chef."

I always like to try new things and since none of us had tried escargot we decided tonight was the night.

I went first, I was a little nervous, but it was similar to calamari, soft and chewy. Really, it just tasted like chicken, but that sauce, it was absolutely incredible. Breckyn ate it right up like it was no big deal. She declared that it was the best thing ever and asked if we could take some home for her brothers to try.

French onion soup of course.

Dan got the goat cheese and beet salad, only the cheese was caramelized! It was amazing and I really wanted to steal it and eat it all.

I also tried Duck for the first time and Dan got the Salmon because that's what he always orders.

After dinner we walked around the grounds before the sun went down. They are absolutely breathtaking.

There are peacocks all over the grounds and before we left, they all gathered on top of the roof to roost.

After exploring outside we came back to sample some desserts.

Creme brulee is my all time favorite thing ever! It was perfect.

We had such a lovely evening. It was truly magical for our sweet daughter and perfectly romantic in every way possible. The food was perfection, the service was top notch and they didn't blink an eye when we asked if we could take our escargot home for the boys.
